2027: No governor can oppose Tinubu re-election bid — Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, believes it will be challenging for governors to oppose President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 due to his supportive policies.

Sani made the comment at the Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation’s interactive session on government-citizen engagement in Kaduna, emphasizing President Tinubu’s unprecedented support for governors and sub-national governments.

The high-level meeting is themed “Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizens Engagement for National Unity.”

Sani highlighted that no president has supported governors and sub-national governments like President Tinubu, making it unlikely for governors to oppose his re-election.

Sani also noted that the federal government is engaging with non-state actors in the north, a first in Nigeria’s history, to discuss progress and assess the situation in the region.

This development could potentially impact the political landscape in Nigeria, especially in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.

Sani, in his statement, said: “Moreover, no president in Nigeria’s history has supported governors and sub-national governments the way President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently doing.

“As a result, it is unlikely that any governor in Nigeria would go against the president.”

He added: “For the first time in Nigeria’s history, the government is engaging with non-state actors to discuss progress and assess the situation in northern Nigeria.

“This unprecedented approach reflects a shift in how national issues are being addressed”.
