2027: Peter Obi Best Candidate for Coalition – Ameh

Peter Ameh, former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), has declared that Peter Obi is the most qualified candidate to lead an opposition coalition into Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

He made this known during an interview with AriseTV, where he assessed the chances of a united opposition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Ameh, the coalition’s success will depend on selecting a candidate with real momentum and broad public trust.

“There’s a good chance that the coalition can remove an underperforming government,” Ameh said during the live program.

“But this must be predicated on certain factors. The coalition needs a candidate who has momentum, public appeal, and an organic following.”

He stressed that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, already meets these conditions.

According to him, Obi’s strong electoral performance and grassroots support during the last election prove he has what it takes to lead a winning team.

Ameh noted that Nigerians, especially young voters, believe in Obi’s message of accountability, transparency, and development.

He added that Obi’s performance in 2023 despite the odds was historic and cannot be ignored when planning for 2027.

“Peter Obi has proven, without a doubt, from the numbers he amassed in the 2023 elections, that the people are invested in him,” he said. “He has what no other candidate currently hasan organic movement.”

The former IPAC chair advised opposition parties to unite early and rally around the most credible candidate.

He warned that a fragmented opposition would only help the ruling party retain power.

In recent weeks, discussions around forming a mega coalition have gained momentum.

Political leaders like Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have shown interest in a possible alliance.

However, many analysts believe Peter Obi still commands the widest non-partisan appeal across the country.

Ameh concluded by saying that if the opposition is serious about rescuing Nigeria in 2027, then it must build around a candidate the people already trust and that candidate, he said, is Peter Obi.
