2027: Peter Obi’s Supporters Launch ‘Village Boys Movement’ To Counter Tinubu’s ‘City Boys’

(DDM) – As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, supporters of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, have unveiled a new grassroots mobilisation platform known as the ‘Village Boys Movement.’

The initiative is positioned as a counter to the ‘City Boys Movement,’ a political mobilisation group associated with supporters of President Bola Tinubu and reportedly championed by his son, Seyi Tinubu, as part of efforts toward the President’s re-election bid.

The Village Boys Movement was formally launched in Abuja, where its convener, Maazị Tochukwu Ezeoke, addressed supporters and introduced himself as the “Village Headmaster.” During his remarks, Ezeoke described the movement as a platform rooted in accountability, ethical leadership, and grassroots values.

According to him, the movement represents “a Nigeria that works before it earns and earns before it spends,” signaling what he termed a moral and philosophical distinction from other political groups.

He clarified that the initiative is not designed to create division along geographic lines or promote hostility toward urban communities. Instead, he explained that the “village” symbolism reflects principles of productivity, transparency, and responsible leadership.

“The issue is not geography but the source of wealth, the ethics of leadership, and the structure of accountability,” Ezeoke stated while addressing supporters.

Observers note that the emergence of such movements reflects early strategic positioning by political stakeholders ahead of 2027. Grassroots mobilisation platforms have increasingly become tools for shaping narratives, consolidating support bases, and amplifying campaign messages long before formal campaign seasons begin.

The City Boys Movement, on the other hand, has been associated with youth engagement and urban political advocacy in support of President Tinubu’s administration. With both platforms now in the public space, analysts believe the coming months may witness heightened political messaging and mobilisation efforts from various camps.

As Nigeria approaches another election cycle, these parallel movements underscore the growing contest of ideas, branding, and grassroots engagement that is expected to define the road to 2027.
