2027: Rivers Assembly endorses Tinubu for second term

The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging President Bola Tinubu to run for re-election in 2027.

The motion, moved by House Leader Major Jack (Akuku-Toru I constituency), praised Tinubu for steering the country “in the right direction” and highlighted his leadership and contributions to Rivers State.

At least 15 lawmakers sponsored the motion, with all speakers supporting it during Wednesday’s plenary.

Lawmaker Dumle Maol (Gokana constituency) cited Tinubu’s appointment of six federal officials from his constituency, saying his people want him to have a second term: “You can’t change a winning team.”

Deputy Leader Linda Somiari-Stewart called the motion “timely,” emphasizing Tinubu’s performance.

Speaker Martins Amaewhule stressed the assembly’s support for the federal government, focusing on security and urging citizens to aid agencies.

The resolution passed via voice vote. This comes after Tinubu’s March 18 emergency rule in Rivers, appointing Ibok-Ete Ibas as sole administrator, which ended on September 17, 2025.
