2027: Why Kwankwaso won’t team up with Tinubu — Galadima

Buba Galadima, a prominent chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has firmly dismissed speculation that former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, might align with President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking passionately during an appearance on Channels Television’s, Galadima accused the Tinubu administration of unfairly undermining Kwankwaso and the NNPP, particularly through its actions in Kano State.

Galadima highlighted the federal government’s backing of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, despite his removal by NNPP Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He pointed to what he described as federal interference, including the appointment of two emirs in Kano—one endorsed by the state government and another supported by the federal government.

“How can Kwankwaso be a friend of the APC with what they are doing to us in Kano? Appointing two emirs in one town? Who’s got the responsibility to appoint emirs and pay their salaries?” Galadima questioned.

He went further, accusing the federal government of providing heavy security for Emir Ado-Bayero while neglecting worsening insecurity in the state.

“They have not less than 40 pickup vehicles filled with mobile police guarding the Emir. Meanwhile, in some localities in Kano, people are being killed and their handsets stolen, and the police are tied down. Are they not ashamed?” he asked.

Galadima made it clear that any form of alliance between Kwankwaso and Tinubu ahead of 2027 is “unrealistic and out of the question.”

He confidently declared that the NNPP, not the APC, will play a decisive role in determining Nigeria’s next president.

“We are the people who will determine who will be the President of Nigeria in 2027,” he said.

He also dismissed claims that Kwankwaso is considering joining forces with Tinubu, describing the former governor as the “strongest political iroko in Nigeria today” who successfully challenged the APC’s dominance in Kano during the last elections.

Galadima argued that the federal government’s backing of Emir Ado-Bayero is purely political, aimed at gaining favor in Kano for the 2027 elections.

However, he maintained that no Kano Emir has ever determined the outcome of a presidential election in Nigeria.
