2027: Why Northern Politicians Are Secretly Moving to ADC — Babachir Lawal

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has declared that Northern governors won’t win re-election in 2027 unless they dump the ruling APC for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He made this statement during an interview on Trust TV’s Sunday Politics.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress has completely failed the North.
Lawal warned that most northern officials have no political future in the APC.
He insisted the region has been sidelined and left behind by the Tinubu-led administration.
“Which northern official will campaign on the APC platform and expect to win? None,” Lawal said.
He didn’t stop there. When asked specifically about governors, he said, “Unless they join the ADC, they will not win. The APC is a destructive party.”
He explained that the ADC has already started talks with some of these governors.
According to Lawal, they are left with no option but to defect.
He also backed recent criticism from Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former Kano governor.
Lawal agreed that President Bola Tinubu’s government has shown total disregard for Northern Nigeria’s development.
“There’s no sign of infrastructure development in the North,” Lawal stated. “Nothing is going on. Maybe it’s in their imagination, but we can’t see it.”
He said federal projects are absent and people in the region are growing frustrated.
“We’re engineers. Kwankwaso and I understand when physical work is being done. In the North, we see nothing,” Lawal added.
The warning from Lawal could signal an even deeper shift ahead of the 2027 elections.
Many governors now face a critical choice: stay in APC and risk defeat or move to the ADC.
