21-year-old man arrested in connection with fire at Starmer’s home

A 21-year-old man, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, has been arrested in connection with a series of suspected arson attacks involving two properties associated with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and a car.
Recall that Diaspora Digital Media had brought you a report on the fire at the home of Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Emergency services were first called to respond to a fire at Sir Keir Starmer’s private residence in Kentish Town, north London, early on Monday morning.
This incident followed a similar fire on Sunday at another property connected to the Prime Minister, a house that had been converted into flats in nearby Islington.
The London Fire Brigade reported that during the Islington fire, one person had to be helped to safety by firefighters.
In addition to these two incidents, police are also investigating a small car fire that occurred on the same street as the Kentish Town property on the preceding Thursday.
The car fire happened shortly before 3:00 a.m. BST and is now being considered part of the broader investigation.
Due to the nature of the incidents and their connection to a high-profile political figure, the investigation is being led by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.
The fires are being treated as suspicious, and the counter-terrorism unit is taking precautions as a result of the property’s prior ties to the Prime Minister.
In a statement, the Met Police said:
“As a precaution and due to the property having previous connections with a high-profile public figure, officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command are leading the investigation into this fire.”
Details of the three separate incidents are gradually emerging.
The fire at the Islington property was reported just after 3:00 a.m. on Sunday.
The second fire, which took place at the Kentish Town home, began at approximately 1:11 a.m. on Monday.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within about 20 minutes.
Although there was some damage to the entrance of the property, police confirmed that no one was injured in the Kentish Town incident.
Sir Keir Starmer is understood to still own the Kentish Town residence, although he currently lives at Downing Street.
The house was his home before the 2024 general election but has since been rented out.
Officials have not disclosed who was inside the property when the fire occurred.
On Monday, Sir Keir thanked emergency responders for their swift work.
His official spokesperson stated that the matter was the subject of an active investigation and therefore no further details could be provided at that time.
These include information about who might have been present in the home during the incident.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper also addressed the issue in comments to the BBC.
She confirmed she had been briefed about the incidents but emphasized she could not disclose any additional information due to the ongoing investigation.
“Police are investigating these incidents and they have my full support in doing so,” she said.
“With any incident, there are always the important concerns that all of us will have, but we also have confidence in our police and the work that they are doing to investigate this incident.”
Eyewitness accounts have added further detail to the developing situation.
One local resident told BBC News about the car fire on Thursday, saying, “I heard people screaming ‘fire, fire!’ I looked out and you could see it lighting up the street.”
This description highlights the alarming nature of the incidents and has raised concerns among the local community.
At this stage, investigators continue to examine whether the fires are linked and whether they were targeted attacks due to Sir Keir Starmer’s political role.
Authorities have not ruled out any motives, and the police have urged the public to remain vigilant while they carry out their inquiries.
