At least 25 people have been killed and 44 others injured after a passenger bus overturned in Algeria’s Boumerdès province on Friday, emergency officials said.
Algeria’s Civil Protection Agency confirmed the accident, saying rescue teams responded swiftly to the scene and evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the crash, while investigations are underway to determine what led to the fatal accident.
Local broadcaster Ennahar TV reported that Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb visited the University Hospital in Boumerdès, where some of the injured victims are receiving medical care.
Road accidents remain a major concern in Algeria, with speeding, poor road conditions and reckless driving often blamed for fatal crashes across the North African country.
Authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations continue.
