Police in Abia State has dismissed three dubious operatives following allegations of conspiracy, abduction, and extortion.

The command in a statement issued by it’s spokesperson, Maureen Chioma Chinaka, said the affected officers include, Sergeant Jons Nnamdi, Corporal James Dan, and Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka.

The trio were officially dismissed from the force on February 7, 2025.

Also, they have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution alongside their civilian accomplices.

The three officers were nabbed on January 29, 2025, by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Abayi. At the time of their arrest, they were reportedly in possession of an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol.

According to the statement, investigations revealed that the officers conspired to rent a minibus, abduct unsuspecting civilians along the Port-Harcourt Expressway, and extort money from them. They also allegedly demanded additional payments from the victims’ families in exchange for their release.

“An investigation/orderly room trial was initiated by the Command, and the investigation confirmed their involvement in the unprofessional conduct which are prejudicial to discipline and unbecoming of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, leading to their dismissal,” the statement read.

Chinaka added that the officers’ official equipment had been retrieved by the Command’s Provost, confirming they are no longer members of the force.

While reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, reiterated the command’s firm stance against corruption and misconduct within the ranks.

“Discipline and professionalism is the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force,” Isa stated, assuring the public that “the command will not condone the activities of bad eggs in the force.”
