3 killed, 6 arrested as church goers fight in Taraba

Three people have been killed following a violent clash between members of the United Methodist Church in Nigeria (UMCN) and the Global Methodist Church (GMC) in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The sad incident was confirmed by Taraba State police command.

NewsBand understand that the unfortunate incident which occurred on Sunday, December 15, 2024, stemmed from a longstanding leadership face-off within the UMCN, leading to the establishment of the GMC as a splinter group.

Spokesman of the command in Taraba, SP Usman Abdullahi revealed that six suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the violence.

Security forces, including police and soldiers, have been drafted to the area to prevent further escalation.

The clash is believed to be the climax of tensions that have simmered for years, prompting the Taraba State Government to previously order the sealing of the UMCN headquarters in Jalingo.
