40-foot container crashes on Lagos expressway, kills one

A tragic road accident occurred along the Cele Expressway in Lagos.

According Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports The incident involved a 40-foot container truck.

The crash resulted in one death and five injuries.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the event.

The accident took place on Saturday morning, inward Oshodi.

It involved an articulated truck, five commercial buses, and two private vehicles.

The private vehicles included a Toyota Camry and a Sienna bus.

Preliminary reports suggest that the truck suffered a brake failure.

The truck was reportedly traveling at high speed when the failure occurred.

The driver lost control, causing the containers to detach.

The containers crashed onto nearby vehicles, causing severe damage.

A pedestrian died on the spot due to the crash.

Five other individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Among the injured was a commercial bus driver.

The bus driver suffered compound fractures in both his arm and leg.

Emergency responders from LASAMBUS transported all injured victims to the General Hospital.

The victims received urgent medical care for their injuries.

The identities of the deceased and injured have not yet been disclosed.

LASTMA, LASEMA, and FRSC were all involved in rescue operations.

The agencies helped extricate victims and restore normal traffic flow.

Police from the Ijesha-Tedo Division maintained order at the scene.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA General Manager, expressed condolences.

He extended well wishes to the injured for a speedy recovery.

Bakare-Oki emphasized the need for regular vehicle inspections.

He called for strict adherence to traffic regulations.

“The safety of all road users is paramount,” said Bakare-Oki.
