5 farmers feared dead in fresh Benue attack

Five farmers have been reportedly killed on Wednesday by armed invaders in the Yelwata community of Guma Local Government Area in Benue State.

Villagers told our correspondent by telephone that the farmers were working in their farms when their assailants mauled them to death.

The villagers also said several others who were injured had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

A Security Adviser in Guma LGA, Waku Christopher, confirmed the attacks on the rural people.

He said five persons who were working on their farms were seized and killed by the armed invaders.

Christopher said four other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries after they were macheted.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the attack but was yet to give details.

“Attack at Yelwata community is confirmed. Police officers who were deployed to the area are still in the operation. Details will be revealed as soon as the operation is over please,” the PPRO stated.
