5 UPP Guber Aspirants Resign, As Party Tackles Buhari On Arewa Youths

Five governorship aspirants under the UPP umbrella resigned from party following protracted crisis, as party urges Buhari to tackles Arewa Youths

Five governorship aspirants of the United Progressives Party [UPP] have resigned from party following protracted crisis that has engulfed the party.

The governorship aspirants that resigned, as gathered by Elombah.com, are:

1. Hon Chudi Offodile, 

2. Ifeanyichukwu Okonkwo, 

3. Obumneke Ejimnkeonye Okafor, 

4. Paul Obianoso, and,

5. Ugochukwu Onwuka.

The aspirants said they are dumping UPP and will announce their next political move in due course.

Meanwhile, the Movement of Biafrans in Nigeria [MOBIN] has also stated that they are abandoning the party.

MOBIN, which has pitched tent with UPP on the forthcoming November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, said that UPP had deviated from their original pro-Biafra stance.

The Director General of MOBIN, Rita Eberechukwu Anigbogu said that MOBIN will make its position public soon.

In another development, UPP yesterday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to take prompt action to diffuse the tension in the polity.

UPP’s call just as the deadline given to Igbos resident in northern Nigeria by a Coalition of Arewa Youths to leave north before October 1 draws ever nearer.

The party, in a statement issued in Abuja to welcome Buhari from medical vacation in London, told him to revamp the economy and provide dividends of democracy to the Nigeria populace.

The statement, was signed by UPP National Chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie wished him good health in discharging his constitutional responsibilities.

Chief Chekwas, however, said that it was time to reaffirm and renew the confidence in the fatherland.

He said: “The United Progressive Party welcomes President Muhammadu Buhari from his medical leave in the United Kingdom . 

“It is an answer to the prayers of fellow compatriots for his recovery and safe return to continue the enormous task of building a strong, united, prosperous and egalitarian society.

“We are grateful to God that President Buhari returned hale and hearty to complete his mandate till 2019 and urge him to take prompt action to diffuse the tension in the polity, revamp the economy and provide dividends of democracy to the populace.

“It is time for patriotism. 

“It is time to reaffirm and renew our confidence in the fatherland and join Mr. President in steering the ship of the Nigeria State to the path of rectitude, progress and development.”

Chief Chekwas Okorie , it could be recalled, contested against Buhari in the 2015 presidential elections as the UPP candidate.
