8 killed, many injured as mining site collapses in Zamfara

A tragic incident occurred at an illegal mining site in Jabaka, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, resulting in the deaths of at least eight civilians.

The site caved in around 8:00 a.m. on September 25, according to security analyst Zagozola Makama.

The pit collapsed, burying a number of miners under debris.

Teams from the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit, led by their Commander, responded to the incident and recovered eight bodies.

Rescue operations are ongoing to locate any remaining victims.

The deceased and injured were taken to the General Hospital in Maru for autopsy and medical treatment.

This incident highlights the dangers associated with illegal mining, which often lacks safety measures and oversight.

The Anti-Illegal Mining Unit is working to address such incidents and ensure the safety of communities in mining areas.
