86 Army captains embark on a crucial promotion exam in Edo

Eighty-six Nigerian Army captains have begun their 2025 written promotion examination in Benin, Edo State.

The examination commence today Monday, May 12, and is expected to run until Friday, May 16.

It is being hosted by the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Benin City.

The exam is part of the Army’s structure promotion programme for officers seeking elevation to the rank of Major.

The one-week assessment is consider critical for career advancement in the Nigerian military.

Commander of Training and Doctrine Command, Maj. Gen. Kevin Aligbe, declared the examination open on Sunday.

Aligbe also serves as President of the Examination Board overseeing the process.

He congratulated the participating captains on reaching what he called a pivotal stage in their careers.

The examination, he said, represents a stepping stone towards greater leadership responsibility in the military.

“You must uphold discipline and professionalism throughout this process,” Aligbe charged the candidates.

He describe the exam as a test of competence, commitment, and military ethics.

Aligbe reminded them that the test is mandatory for promotion to the rank of Major.

Officers are allowed only three chances to pass, according to Army promotion rules.

“Prepare well. If you have done your part, you will succeed,” the commander assures them.

He stressed that malpractice would not be tolerated at any level during the exercise.

Anyone caught cheating or flouting exam rules will face immediate sanctions.

“This exam is strictly monitored. Breaches of protocol will attract disqualification and other punishments,” he warned.

Aligbe said the Army leadership expects a hundred percent success rate from this year’s batch.

He noted that the test aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision for a professional, responsive force.

The Army, he added, aims to build a merit-driven officer corps through structured promotion procedures.

Aligbe also announce incentives for top performers in the exam.

Candidates who emerge first, second, and third will receive commendation letters and cash awards.

He promised a transparent marking process devoid of favouritism or bias.

“We are committed to fairness in grading and result announcement,” the commander assured.

In his welcome remarks, Commandant of NASST, Maj. Gen. Adebayo Adegbite, hailed the event.

He described the examination as a milestone in the development of Army leadership.

“We are honoured to host this significant professional exercise,” Adegbite stated.

He confirmed that all candidates underwent a month-long preparatory cadre before the main test.

Mock exams were also held to assess their readiness for the promotion test.

“We expect excellent results, considering your preparation,” Adegbite told the candidates.

He warned participants to remain security-conscious during their stay in Benin.

He advised them to avoid unnecessary movements outside the base.

“Move in pairs and remain vigilant always,” he cautioned.

Security operatives, he said, are on alert throughout the examination period.

Adegbite assured that logistics and welfare of candidates had been adequately addressed.

He encouraged the officers to stay focused and committed to the task at hand.

The Army remains committed to professionalism, discipline, and structured career development.

The exam continues daily until Friday, with supervision from senior officers and external observers.

Therefore,results are expected to be announced after thorough grading and verification.
