Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda, a politician from Kano, has been placed under arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly threatening to organize the populace in order to launch an insurrection and render Kano ungoverned.

The controversial politician, who is well-known for airing critical opinions on state radio, was taken into custody after the security services became aware of a viral video of one of his most recent interviews. This information was confirmed by a high-ranking secret police official in Kano.

The officer, who wished to remain anonymous, disclosed that Kwamanda was turned over to the police following the arrest and was then charged in a state magistrate court. After that, the judge mandated that he be placed on remand in a prison.

According to DDM news, during the interview that led to Kwamanda’s detention, he said that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the head of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), had finalized plans to reinstate Muhammadu Sanusi, the 14th Emir of Kano who had been ousted.

In the video that was sent to our reporter, Kwamanda was heard promising to organize the populace to seize control of Kano’s streets and launch an uprising that would be so massive and destructive that the federal government would have to impose a state of emergency in the city.

Daily Trust also learned that Kwamanda had given multiple interviews on local radio stations following the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s election to the position of Kano state governor. In these interviews, Kwamanda expressed his displeasure with the ruling and criticized President Bola Tinubu for allegedly failing to ensure the All Progressives Congress (APC) would retain power in the state.

Along with others, he had denounced the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria’s (FAAN) decision to move its headquarters from Abuja to Lagos and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) recent actions of moving some of its employees from Abuja to Lagos, claiming that these actions were all components of the Tinubu-led administration’s scheme to destroy the country’s north.
