Youths in the North Demand Keyamo, CBN Governor Sack Over Agencies Relocation

Due to the planned relocation of the institutions they oversee, the Joint Action Committee of Northern Youth Associations has demanded the expulsion of Yemi Cadoso, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation.

The group’s convener, Murtala Abubakar, director of gender mobilization Latifa Abdussalam, director of public communication and strategy Hashim Tom Maiyashi, and other signatories to a communiqué released on Thursday praised the Senate’s Northern Caucus but urged lawmakers to pursue the removal of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s two appointees.

The group said that instead of suing the president to reverse the decision, the lawmakers should set a deadline for the president to halt the relocation.

“We urge our representatives to demand the immediate resignation of the Minister of Aviation and the Governor of the CBN from their positions, given the gravity of the decisions made by the CBN and FAAN that show their main executives are unfit to lead federal institutions.

“This is not a punitive measure; rather, it is an urgent step to uphold the constitutional integrity of important institutions that have a significant impact on our country’s administrative and economic landscape, as well as to ensure accountability and restore public trust.”

They went on to say that decisions that affect the administrative and economic climate of the nation must be made with competence, openness, and respect for the constitution.

“We demand that our National Assembly MPs carry out their entire legislative monitoring role. We implore them to establish a firm date by which the executive will retract the decisions made on the relocation of FAAN headquarters and CBN departments, and to take prompt corrective action.
