Terrorists burn town, abduct over 60 with women, children in Zamfara

Terrorists have reportedly abducted at least 60 persons including women and children and burnt down a great chunk of the target town, Ruwan Tofa in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

This is coming on the heels of the release of 279 schoolgirls that were abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in Jengebe on the night of Friday, February 26, 2021.

The girls were released after several days in captivity of the camp of the bandits.

News of the recent attack was broken by BBC Hausa which reported that residents of the town fled the town in droves to nearby towns and villages for safety.

BBC Hausa reported that the terrorists have recently been frequently attacking the target areas, destroying lives and properties.

Eyewitnesses told BBC: “They were there even yesterday and the day before yesterday.

“They burnt down our cars, houses, shops and about half of the town,” he said.

He added that women, children and nursing mothers were among the 60 persons abducted by the terrorists.

“One of the residents had his entire family abducted except one child.

“They kidnapped an aide of a community leader and his entire family,” he added.

One of the victims of the attack said 15 members of his family were abducted by the terrorists and his entire properties destroyed.

The villagers also lamented that they put a distress call to security officers but got no respite despite several assurances.

In another development, BBC reported another armed group abducted three schoolchildren in Runka, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The children, according tom the report, were kidnapped on Tuesday while returning from school.

The abductors are yet to contact the family of the children as at the moment BBC filed the report.

It could be recalled that over 300 students of another school, Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina State, were recently kidnapped and later released by islamic militants.
