Rapper Weird MC has revealed how she came back home with just 25 pounds to release her hit song ‘Ijoya’ in 2006.
Weird MC recently shared reasons to take a risk on an Instagram live.
She said: “It is good to take a risk. Let me share something with you today before ‘Ijoya’ dropped when I came home, I only had 25 pounds with me.
“I was afraid and scared I said ah just 25 pounds in my hand to take back to Nigeria but you know what I knew.
“I had something in my hand that was bigger, I had my talent, I had a hit album, it is so amazing it is the same Ahbu who signed me.
“But Ahbu will go and come and at that point, I knew there was something spiritual, so I prayed, there were times that I wept, I’m human. I cried.
“I said this song was everywhere and I didn’t have a marketer, I was afraid, even my friends were saying what is going on Shola this song has already blown. I was determined, it was the same Ahbu who now came back.”
She further disclosed how God used Ahbu’s ventures wife to get her a marketing deal.
Ijoya was produced by award-winning producers Mr Skillz and Don Jazzy.
It topped all audio and video charts for eight straight weeks and was No 1 on MTV Base.
The album moved a record 100,000 units in its first week of release and was nominated for major industry awards, including the prestigious Channel O African Music Video awards 2006.
