Media shy but sports loving Nigerian governor, Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq of Kwara, a north central state in the country, lived up to reputation in Accra on Sunday, sneaking in to watch a game of volleyball in the ongoing All African Games in the West African Country.

Abdulrazaq (pictured, second, middle row) is never given to funfairs and has been seen many times in his home state capital, Ilorin, among spectators watching either local soccer derby or school inter school games without as much any official retinues.

But in Accra, he got to speak on the state of facilities in the west African country.

While praising his country’s athletes many of which hail from Kwara, the governor commended Ghana for the top notch facility put in place to host AAG.

He also recommended that governors back in Nigeria needs to do more in sports investment.

Abdulrazaq is Chairman of Nigeria’s powerful Governors’ Forum.

He says that Nigeria currently placing second on medals table behind Egypt demonstrates the formidable Nigerian competitive spirit.

He also stated that outcome so far and what he has seen so far in Ghana demonstrates why governors in Nigeria must invest more in sports.

According to him, every penny put in sports is worth it.

He spoke privately to Nigerian journalists at the volley event in Accra where he came to watch the Nigerian team play.

Few governors in Nigeria have demonstrated passion in promoting sports like Abdulrazaq.

Speaking further, the governor said that the facilities he has seen so far in Ghana further convinces him to invest more in sports, describing the Ghana sports facilities as impressive.

The governor commended Kwara athletes competing at the AAG and promises to continue to support them to make the state and country proud.

Speaking on the recent decision to plough N2.5 billion into the indoor sports hall upgrade, the governor explained that the facility comes will further enhance sports development and business in the state.

When it is ready, Kwara will be able to host national and international competitions, Governor Abdulrazaq said.
