Ondo residents cry out, says abandoned dump-site degrades environment

Residents of Oyepitan area of Igbodigo in Okitipupa Local Government area of Ondo State have cried out for help, requesting that government should, in due time, clear the accumulated garbage on the government dump-site in the community.

Stressing that with the way the site is abandoned , infectious disease could break out anytime soon, the residents of the community are expressing displeasure on how the Ondo State government and sanitary officers administering the use of the site have continued to keep mute over the indiscriminate condition of the waste-site.

The House owners in Oyepitan crescent, Igbodigo stated are concerned about the spike in land pollution and health degradation which pose threat to the community.

A resident of the area, Mrs. Christanah Adetimehin said the designated dump-site situated in the area has increased the activities of houseflies and mosquito infestation, with the consequent emitting of putrid smell.

Other residents who chose the condition of anonymity added that the site is not properly managed by the appropriate authorities and this can lead to outbreak of diseases that will endanger public health.

Calling on the State government, the Local Government Authority and Sanitary Officers to come to their rescue, the residents have requested in the alternative that the dump-site situated within the community should be relocated, if it will not be properly managed.
