A United Kingdom Court has, on Monday, formally included Sonia, the daughter of the embattled Deputy Senate President alongside his father, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and mother, Beatrice, as suspects in the human trafficking and organ harvest charges levelled against them.
Sonia was formally charged as an accused person in the case which has seen his dad languishing in detention since May.
According to News Band correspondent, who was present at the court today, during the sitting, Sonia was seen with her mother, Beatrice, in the courtroom.
Senator Ekweremadu, however, was not present as he was not brought to court by the prison authorities where he is being held in custody.
Meanwhile, the Ekweremadus have filed two motions before the court respecting the case.
The first motion was to grant the senator bail, a privilege which was denied him when Mrs. Ekweremadu was granted same by the court.
The second motion, application for dismissal, sought complete dismissal of the case and they were asked to formulate their argument and serve the prosecutor before November 25.
The prosecutor, on his part, is expected to respond to them before December 12 and the application will be heard on December 16.
Meanwhile the main case is coming up on January 31, 2023.
In the meantime, if the December 16 application is granted in the favour of the Ekweremadus, then there will be no need for the January 31 hearing as the accused persons will already be off the hook.
Senator Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, it could be recalled, were arrested in London and arraigned for charges related to human trafficking and organ harvest and have been in custody since then, though the wife was later granted conditional bail.
They were accused of trafficking a young Nigerian, David Nwamini, for the purpose of organ harvest for the daughter who is suffering from kidney failure, a charge which they have vehemently and consistently denied. Read more.
