Senate Intervenes into SSANU, NASU, NAAT Srike

Proceedings Of The Nigerian Senate Of Thursday, 23rd November, 2017. Senate President Bukola Saraki took the official Prayer and led the ChambersSenate on Wednesday intervened into the current strike of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) across the country.

The Non-Academic Staff of Nigerian Universities had been on strike since last year December.

The intervention of the Senate on the ongoing strike was as a result of the bill sponsored by Senator Francis Alimikhena who sponsored a bill for An Act to establish the City University of Technology Auchi.

The Senate after the passage of the bill into second reading directed the chairman of Senate Committee on Tertiary institutions and Tetfund, Senator Jubril Barau.

Speaking on the on the ongoing strike, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu who presided over the session mandated its committee on Tertiary institutions and Tetfund to intervene in the matter.

According to Ekweremadu, the Committee is directed to look into the issue of strike upon by Non -Academic Staff of the Universities.

It could be recalled that the Unions had called on the Federal Government to release N30billion to them as a condition to calling off their industrial action.
