Nigerian Judiciary Workers Join Nationwide Strike, Courts to Shut Down

Published

on

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has issued a directive to its members to shut down all courts and judicial institutes across the country, effective Monday.

This move is in solidarity with the nationwide protests declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The protests are a response to the government’s failure to conclude negotiations on a new national minimum wage and its refusal to reverse the recent increase in electricity tariff.

The labour unions are demanding a new national minimum wage, a reversal of the electricity tariff hike, and an end to the categorization of electricity consumers into bands.

The strike action is expected to have a significant impact on court proceedings and judicial services nationwide, resulting in a halt to all legal proceedings until the demands of the labour unions are met.

This move by JUSUN is a show of solidarity with the larger labour movement in Nigeria, and a testament to the unions’ commitment to fighting for the rights of workers and the general public.
