Tinubu orders all Nigerian ambassadors to return home

President Bola Tinubu has ordered all Nigerian career and non-career ambassadors to return home.

The directive was disclosed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Yusuf Tuggar.

He made this known in response to inquiries that the President recalled the Nigerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom—UK, Sarafa Ishola.

A statement by Minister’s media aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir reads, “Sequel to the inquiries on the letter recalling the Nigerian ambassador to the UK, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has clarified that all career ambassadors and non-career ambassadors have been recalled on the instructions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Ambassadors as representatives of the country, serve at the behest of the president and it’s his prerogative to send or recall them from any country.”

Though, no reason was given for the recall. The current ambassadors including Ishola, were appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

But Tinubu recalled him following the expiration of his tenure.
