Police bust kidnappers’ den in Anambra, rescue victim

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnap Squad of Anambra State Police Command have busted a kidnap gang at Nnewi Ichi, in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.
The state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
According to DSP Ikenga, the squad, working with local vigilante men, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout on Wednesday upon receiving information about their activities.
He added that a kidnapped victim was found in the hideout and was conveyed to a hospital at Nnewi for treatment following his rescue.
Ikenga said: “One of the suspected kidnappers was arrested. Operatives recovered one pump-action gun and two locally fabricated hand grenades at the hideout.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, while commending the police operatives and the local vigilante team on this collaboration that has been effective against criminal elements, asked them to sustain the onslaught until crime is reduced to the barest minimum and people can move around in safety.”
Meanwhile, a total of 34 suspects were arraigned for cultism and related offences were remanded on the order of the court. Read more.
