Nigerians prefer to go for merriment than acquire knowledge, Peter Obi laments

The Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, has lamented that an average Nigerian will rather go for merriment that pursue an avenue for higher knowledge.

Mr. Peter Obi made the remarks at the National Conversation on Building a New Value System in Nigeria, with theme “A Public Sphere Conscious Movement – A Necessary Starting Point for the Journey to Redemption“, organized by Professor Pat Utomi on Thursday, November 09, 2023, at Barcelona Hotel, Abuja.

Speaking during the event about the low turnout of invitees and participants, Mr. Obi regretted that the hall would have filled up if the event was about merriment.

Peter Obi further regretted that in a fast-paced dynamic world, an average Nigerian is more concerned with mundane things, instead of learning new ideas.

This, he said, has led to 75 per cent of 14-year-old Nigerians lacking the ability to read/write, or execute simple mathematical equation.
