Bandits ambush, kill 5 police officers in Katsina

Five police officers were ambushed and killed by bandits in Jibia local government area of Katsina State on Sunday.

The officers were traveling from Zandam village to the council headquarters in Jibia when the attack occurred around 6am.

Four officers died at the scene, while a fifth officer succumbed to injuries at the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina.

The assailants stole five AK-47 rifles from the fallen officers.

Mr Abubakar Aliyu, the spokesman of the command confirmed the incident but has yet to provide a detailed statement.

A security report labeled the area as high-risk, advising police operatives to avoid the highway due to frequent terrorist activities.

Jibia and neighboring areas in Kaduna and Zamfara States have witnessed frequent terrorist attacks, making daily life challenging for locals.

Bandits have been targeting roads, farms, and homes in the region.
