Bandits attack defence minister’s hometown, kill 2, kidnap 40

Terror bandits on Saturday night attacked Janboka, the hometown of Minister of State for Defence, Mr Bello Matawalle.

The vicious attack resulted in the deaths of two villagers and the abduction of over 40 residents, mainly women and children.

NewsBand gathered that the armed terrorists invaded the community in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, shooting indiscriminately.

Ibrahim Haru, a resident, narrated the chaotic scene, stating that a headcount carried out at daybreak on Sunday revealed around 40 individuals were missing following the unfortunate assault.

Among the deceased were Malam Isah and a teenage boy, both reportedly killed while attempting to escape the attack.

Mr Haru expressed concern over the rising frequency of attacks in the Maradun area, noting that this incident occurred just a week after terrorists released 10 abducted individuals following the payment of a N10 million ransom.

Despite the presence of local security guards, the terrorists managed to carry out their assault, further exacerbating fears within the community.

The ongoing violence highlights the persistent security challenges faced by residents in the region.

Police authorities in Zamfara are yet to issue a statement in respect to the development.

Meanwhile, the community remains on high alert, grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event.
