The embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure said he has forgiven his opponents whom he accused of tarnishing his image in the cause of the political face-off which almost swallowed the party’s leadership.

Abure said this in his first official statement after a Federal High Court, in Abuja, on Monday, validated the party’s National Convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State, on March 27, 2024, where he was elected for a second term.

“Now that the court has spoken, I offer my forgiveness to those who attempted to undermine our party, engaged in character assassination and blackmail, especially of my person,” Mr Abure.

“In line with the teachings of Jesus Christ, I say I forgive them for they do not know what they are doing. Forgiveness must be accompanied by repentance and restitution,’’ he added.

Mr Abure said the judgment became the foundation for other rulings, reflecting the strength and fairness of the country’s judicial system.

“This judgment marks the beginning of a new era for the Labour Party in Nigeria. There is no question that the party will need restructuring and healing, but I assure you that our doors are open to all,” he said.

He offered an olive branch to LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other aggrieved party members.

Mr Abure urged Mr Obi to help unite the Labour Party, stating that the party would focus on rebuilding its structures, reconnecting with the grassroots, and uniting its members.

“I must also say clearly that I give kudos to and appreciate the judiciary for the work done so far.

“Their role in ensuring that justice prevails in the Labour Party leadership crisis has been invaluable,” he added.
