Breaking: APGA’s Dozie Nwankwo wins at Appeal Court

Hon. Dozie Nwankwo has finally become an All Progressives Grand Alliance [APGA] member of the Federal House of Representatives.

He has won at the Appeal Court this morning.

In a report published on Friday, 09 October, 2015, Elombah.com had announced how the Anambra State election petitions tribunal sitting in Awka presided over by a 3-man panel led by Justice Nayai Aganaba has declared Hon. Nwankwo the legal winner of Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency, Anambra State, National Assembly elections in the March 28, 2015 polls.

In the petition brought by Dozie Nwankwo challenging the declaration of Dr Okey Eze of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the tribunal held that Nwankwo scored the highest number of lawful votes cast in the election and therefore returned him as the winner.

In its declarative judgement on Friday, the tribunal ordered INEC to issue Nwankwo a Certificate of Return forthwith while the one earlier issued to Dr Eze be withdrawn and nullified.

It noted that after careful analysis of evidence brought before it and submissions made by the parties to the matter, the tribunal was convinced that the petitioner has proved his case beyond all reasonable doubts.

That he also provided all necessary evidence to confirm that he polled the highest number of lawful votes cast in the election and ought to be returned as the winner.

Counsel to Nwankwo, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) who was represented by Mr Olusola Dare extolled the tribunal for its objectivity and forthrightness in considering the petition in its merit.

He said that the verdict has again demonstrated that the judiciary remained the last hope of the common man.

With this development, APGA, the 3rd largest political party, has just won an extra seat in the Federal constituency.

The tribunal rescinded the result provided by the Independent National Election Commission [INEC] that saw the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] candidate, Hon. Okechukwu Eze emerge winner.
