Rafat Salami, a distinguished journalist with Voice of Nigeria (VON) and former Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is dead.
The Kogi State-born journalist, known for her active role in union affairs and her advocacy against the stigmatization of children with special needs, reportedly died in the wee hours of Friday, succumbing to an ailment that had seen her been confined on a wheelchair for weeks.
Salami was one of the leaders of the International Press Institute in Nigeria.
Her facebook page became more popular with her relentless updating of the situations with her son, showing the high and the low moments with vivid accounts of challenges faced by children with such medical conditions.
Meanwhile, her death has left the journalism community in shock, with heartfelt tributes pouring in from colleagues and friends, all expressing their grief and honouring her impactful life.
