Release Nnamdi Kanu as Christmas gift to Ndigbo, IPOB-PW tells Tinubu

IPOB Political Wing has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to be gracious and consider a plea for the release of Nnamdi Kanu as a Christmas gift to the people of South-East.

IPW, an appendage of IPOB, which is championing the political process for autonomy like the Scotland pattern, made the passionate appeal in a statement made available to Newsband Newspaper on Saturday.

They pleaded with the President to take into consideration the fact that Nnamdi Kanu has agreed to demobilise and embrace peace, adding that the release of the separatist leader would be a worthy Christmas gift.

The group has since kicked against violence and the pattern of Nnamdi Kanu’s agitation which led to violence and insecurity in the region, vowing to put to rest unlawful activities through political process aimed towards the goal of autonomy.

IPOB-Political Wing also noted that the efforts they have been putting to influence the release of Nnamdi Kanu has been positive due to the decision by the separatist leader to turn a new leaf, and wants President Tinubu to take the chance and put to an end the quagmire.

The statement reads, “The president is aware that Nnamdi Kanu has publicly called for peace. He has publicly said everything will be put to halt. He even said that he was ready to negotiate with the government to find a solution to his predicament.

“If the president doubts that the IPOB leader has not changed, he should listen to his public utterances and his significant shift from IPOB to his family, he changed his lawyer and other things, the move is an indication of change.

“Releasing Nnamdi Kanu this Christmas will be a gift that is worthwhile and also passes the message of Christ Jesus whose birth we are celebrating. Jesus spoke about forgiveness, so, the president should consider him this period.

“IPOB-PW is working tirelessly to make sure that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is released, and we are also pushing to make sure Southeast is brought back to what it used to be. Where insecurity, killings and kidnappings will be no more through political process. Nnamdi Kanu should be forgiven, as his release will help the cause of finding peace.

“It is very important to know that the steps we have taken points to one direction, which says that Nnamdi Kanu must change his approach and go about his business within the confines of the law of the country if released, and he has agreed.

“We respect the fact that he is willing to change, and his willingness is the main demand that have been made clear to us. So, we ask the president to be gracious and release him.

“We finally want to ask those who are opposing or castigating IPOB-PW, who said we are sham to come out and tell Ndigbo that they don’t want Nnamdi Kanu to be released or Nnamdi Kanu will be released when they want. They should tell Ndigbo that they put Nnamdi Kanu in detention and can bring him out.

“IPOB-PW will continue to fight to release Nnamdi Kanu and give our people a peaceful future through politics”.
