EFCC: Court imprisons fake Spiritualist for internet fraud

The EFCC announced via their official X (Twitter) account on Thursday, January 16, 2024, the conviction of Odeyemi Hammed Oluwaseun.

They convicted the self-styled spiritualist for internet fraud.

The post detailed the court’s decision; consequently, this occurred following EFCC files charges against Honeywell Group Chairman, one other

Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar presided over the case.

They found Oluwaseun guilty on two counts related to internet fraud, impersonation, and obtaining money by false pretenses.

The prosecution, led by Sesan Ola from the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, presented compelling evidence against the defendant.

The charges indicate that, under false pretenses, Oluwaseun had dishonestly induced his victims to send substantial amounts of money.

In the first count, he convinced one Bose to send $3,200 worth of gift cards, claiming these would be used to diabolically influence her ex-husband to return to her.

He misrepresented himself as “Lord Hill,” a female spiritualist, using the email account hillor674@gmail.com.

“In the second count, between August and September 2023, Oluwaseun defrauded Schneider Alina.

He persuaded her to send $4,500 worth of gift cards, assuring her that the funds would control her ex-boyfriend’s affections.

He falsely posed as a female spiritualist with the Instagram account _Visions_by_Tendo_12.

Upon pleading guilty to the charges, Oluwaseun faced a review of the case facts.

The prosecutor offered his extra-judicial statements and furthermore presented evidence that included $1,000 recovered from him.

Justice Abdulgafar determined that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Oluwaseun was handed a six-month suspended sentence for crimes against humanity and trespassing.

This punishment applied to each count against him.

The court ordered the forfeiture of the recovered $1,000, an iPhone 15, and a 2008 Toyota Camry to the federal government.

Oluwaseun, a 23-year-old from Oyo State, preyed on vulnerable individuals online.

He posed as an American-based spiritualist with alleged powers to rekindle lost affections.
