Lagos State to refund over N223 Million to Y2023 Hajj Pilgrims

The Lagos State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board has finalized plans to refund N223,003,080.00 to Y2023 Hajj pilgrims.

This announcement was made by Board Secretary Mr. Saheed Onipede in a statement released on Thursday by Public Affairs Officer Taofeek Lawal.

Onipede confirmed that the state received N223,003,080.00 from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

This amount serves as a refund for services not rendered by Saudi authorities during the pilgrimage.

Each of the 3,651 pilgrims will receive N61,080.00 as part of this refund.

Onipede noted that the refund, facilitated by NAHCON, aims to address the inconveniences experienced by pilgrims during their journey.

To collect the refund, beneficiaries must meet specific requirements.

Beneficiaries who are still alive must provide an application letter, photocopies of their International Passport’s data page, and immigration stamped pages,” Onipede explained.

For deceased pilgrims, families need to present the death certificate, next of kin particulars from the Hajj form, and immigration stamped pages.

These documents will ensure a smooth refund process for eligible families.

Onipede addressed concerns regarding the refund process, assuring that the state is committed to a seamless experience for beneficiaries.

He emphasized that Lagos State, as the Centre of Excellence, will uphold pilgrims’ rights and privileges.

In November 2024, NAHCON announced a total disbursement of N4,479,362,880.00 to various Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards.

This funding addresses services inadequately rendered by Saudi authorities during the Y2023 Hajj pilgrimage, particularly at Muna and Arafah.
