Ogun State Police Command foils armed robbery, rescues kidnapped Victims

Ogun State, Nigeria – January 29, 2025 –In a dramatic turn of events, the Ogun State Police Command successfully prevented an armed robbery and rescued three kidnapping victims.

This incident occurred along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway near Ilishan, showcasing the police’s swift action.

The situation unfolded around 7:00 PM on January 28, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Gunmen established a roadblock with an articulated truck and opened fire on unarmed commuters, creating chaos and fear among those traveling.

The Area Commander of Sagamu received an urgent distress call from frightened travelers, prompting immediate action.

A highly trained team of officers was dispatched to the scene, where they encountered a chaotic situation.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen, armed and aggressive, were indiscriminately firing at vehicles, leading to widespread panic among passengers.

During the attack, assailants abducted three individuals from two different vehicles: a Honda Pilot and a Honda Accord.

Authorities identified the victims as Bolaji Bilesanmi, aged 65, Olasunkanmi Idowu, aged 50, and Mohammed Salisu, whose age is unclear.

Swift Police Intervention

Following the distressing incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP. Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, ordered a covert operation led by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

At approximately 4:00 AM on January 29, operatives successfully located the kidnappers’ hideout.

Upon arrival, the police squad was met with resistance as the gang opened fire, resulting in a fierce gun battle.

The confrontation led to the neutralization of five kidnappers, while others managed to flee, presumably with gunshot wounds.

The police recovered significant evidence from the scene, including one AK-47 rifle, ten rounds of 5.6mm caliber ammunition, approximately ₦5.2 million believed to be proceeds of crime, and three mobile phones.

In a fortunate turn of events, authorities rescued the three kidnapped victims without harm. They have now reunited with their families.

The police have intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate, particularly those who escaped with injuries.

A Strong Warning Against Criminal Activities

Commissioner Ogunlowo issued a stern warning regarding criminal activities, especially aimed at young individuals tempted by high-profile crimes.

He emphasized the dangers associated with pursuing financial gain through illegal actions, urging youth to reconsider their choices.
