Borno State Police announce Third-Party insurance enforcement start date

The Borno State Police Command has announced that the full enforcement of the Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy will begin on February 1, 2025.

This initiative aims to improve road safety across the state and aligns with the directive from Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

In a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter), the Command emphasized the importance of adhering to Section 68 of the Insurance Act.

Furthermore, they underscored the significance of complying with Section 312 of the Motor Vehicle (Third-Party Insurance) Act.

These regulations require all vehicle owners to obtain at least third-party insurance before operating their vehicles on Nigerian roads.

This announcement comes in response to concerning statistics from the Nigerian Insurance Association.

Specifically, many vehicles in Borno State remain uninsured, highlighting the urgent need for compliance.

Consequently, the enforcement of this policy aims to address this issue and enhance overall road safety for all residents.

This lack of compliance jeopardizes road safety and complicates compensation processes for victims involved in road accidents.

Therefore, immediate action is essential to address these concerns effectively.

To combat this issue, the Borno State Police Command has established a special enforcement team.

This proactive measure aims to strengthen road safety and ensure accountability among vehicle owners in the region.

This team will comprise police officers, officials from the Borno State Board of Internal Revenue, and representatives from other relevant state agencies.

By fostering this culture, the command hopes to reduce accidents and enhance overall road safety.

Given the upcoming enforcement, the command strongly advises all vehicle owners to act promptly and secure valid third-party insurance.

This measure ensures compliance with the law and protects individuals from potential legal consequences.

Therefore, taking immediate steps is essential to avoid penalties and ensure peace of mind.

This step is crucial for ensuring compliance and protecting the rights of accident victims.
