Following a violent dispute over food supplies, authorities in Njikoka, Anambra State arrested 37-year-old Kosisochukwu Okafor on Monday.
He allegedly stabbed his 45-year-old brother, Emmanuel, during the altercation.
Authorities confirmed the brothers clashed violently at their Adegbe Village family home.
Investigators recovered the weapon and eyewitness accounts corroborate the sequence of events.
The tragic incident occurred on February 7, according to a statement released by the Anambra State Police Command.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest and disclosed that the suspect is currently in police custody.
The suspect reportedly confessed to engaging in a physical altercation with his elder brother, which escalated into violence.
“During the argument, Kosisochukwu used a stick to pierce the chest of the deceased,” SP Ikenga stated.
“The victim was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.”
The police spokesperson described the incident as deeply troubling. Moreover, he emphasized the need for families to resolve conflicts constructively.
Additionally, he stated, “This unfortunate event highlights the dangers of unresolved domestic disputes, underscoring the importance of emotional management.”
Consequently, the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka.
Authorities have assured that the suspect will face charges in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
