How policemen trying to extort money from driver caused accident on Abuja express-way

Some police officers have been accused of causing an auto crash on the Dawaki-Kubwa Expressway in Abuja while attempting to extort money from a driver.

The crash led to the driver of the vehicle fighting for his life.

According to media reports, the officers entered the victim’s vehicle without issuing a stop order, which escalated into a struggle that led to the unfortunate crash.

The incident came to light through a Facebook post by one Mr. Opa Ugbede, who shared firsthand accounts along with images from the scene.

In his post, Ugbede wrote, “According to eyewitness reports, the boy was sent by his mother to buy sachet water and was returning home when police officers within the area forcefully entered his car without any checkpoint or prior stop order. One of the officers allegedly began dragging the steering wheel with him.

“In the struggle, the vehicle lost control, somersaulted three times, and plunged into a gutter. The young driver was severely injured in the crash, with suspicions of internal bleeding.”

Witnesses said the victim, suffered serious injuries and was barely conscious before being rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

Also, eyewitnesses expressed outrage over the officers’ actions following the accident.

Rather than assisting the injured driver, the officers allegedly tried to escape the scene.

Ugbede continued, “Shockingly, instead of assisting the victim, the police officers reportedly attempted to flee the scene. However, vigilant bystanders acted swiftly, deflating the police vehicle’s tyres and ensuring the boy was rescued from the wreckage.”

Meanwhile the FCT Police command spokeswoman, Josephine Adeh, said the commissioner of police has ordered immediate investigation into the incident.

“The Commissioner of Police FCT Police Command, CP Olatunji Disu, psc, strongly condemns this act. He has ordered the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of X-Squad to commence a comprehensive investigation immediately ,” Adeh said in a post on X on Sunday morning.
