Theft Uncovered: Trio Arrested in Abuja Gold Robbery

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed reports of a protest and destruction of property at Itak Junction, describing the information as “false and was only aimed at causing unnecessary unrest and panic within the state.”

The Police in a statement issued by ASP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, explained that a viral report claiming that “protesters have blocked Itak Junction, and are causing destruction including damage to vehicles,” is “false and was only aimed at unnecessary unrest and panic within the state.”

The Command also explained that the incident was actually the apprehension of a suspected ritualist, Michael Edet Effa, by villagers who found objects believed to be charms and names of deceased individuals tied to them in his rented apartment.

The statement divulged that the police promptly intervened, taking the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department to prevent lynching: “Immediately, the Command swung into action and took the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department to prevent him from being lynched.”

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, has reassured the public of the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, saying “the command is working assiduously to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.”

The public is advised to remain calm, vigilant, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, as the command urged, “together we can achieve a safe and secure Akwa Ibom.”
