Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retired), the newly appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has said that the Rivers State House of Assembly complex will be ready within six months.
He gave the assurance during an inspection of the site on Saturday.
MR. Ibas during the inspection, stressed his commitment to ensuring the legislature is fully functional before the end of his tenure.
He noted that since assuming office, he had identified the absence of a functioning legislature as a significant gap in the state’s governance structure.
He urged the contractors handling the project to accelerate their work and adhere to the agreed timeline, stressing that restoring legislative activities is a key part of his mandate.
Ibas, accompanied by the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, was given a tour of the project by Engineer Omaka Oko, the General Manager of the construction company.
“I had been at the executive arm of the State governance structure and one of the pillars that is missing for now is the legislature, and for them to function effectively, they also need a place to work from,” Ibas stated.
“And perhaps, I am yet to be sure that work is going on as expected, so that by the end of the six months, this place will be ready for those who need to use it. I think basically that is what it is.”
He expressed confidence that the contractors would meet their deadlines, adding, “They have a schedule and they have timelines that I believe they will like to adhere to. I think the State has done its own bit by providing the necessary funds, I was briefed.”
