President Tinubu hosts 46th Alaafin of Oyo at State house

Abuja, Nigeria – On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu warmly received the newly installed 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, at the State House in Abuja.

Notably, this visit marked the monarch’s first official engagement with the president since his coronation.

Accompanying Oba Owoade were his wife, Queen Abiwumi, and a distinguished delegation of traditional rulers from Oyo State. During the meeting, President Tinubu enthusiastically congratulated the Alaafin, describing his ascension as both divine and momentous for the Oyo Kingdom.

“This brings me immense joy and pride,” President Tinubu declared. “Your rise to the throne reflects divine will and the overwhelming support of your people. Like my own presidency, your leadership signifies destiny at work.”

Furthermore, the president stressed the vital role of traditional institutions in national development. He urged closer collaboration with monarchs to implement policies that uplift citizens. Specifically, he highlighted education and healthcare as key priorities for his administration.

“We remain committed to advancing education and Medicare,” Tinubu affirmed. “Additionally, we must preserve our cultural heritage. Traditional rulers are indispensable in promoting peace, unity, and inclusive growth for national prosperity.”

Moreover, Tinubu commended Oyo indigenes in his government, including Victor Adeleke, State Chief of Protocol, and Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf, Aide-de-Camp, for their outstanding service.

In response, Oba Owoade thanked the president for the warm welcome. He pledged the Oyo traditional council’s full support for Tinubu’s governance agenda. The Alaafin also emphasized the need for stronger ties between traditional and political leaders to drive progress.

Ultimately, the meeting reinforced the enduring bond between Nigeria’s traditional and political leadership. Both leaders vowed to work together for the nation’s advancement, ensuring unity and sustainable development.
