The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced a N5 million reward for credible tips leading to the recapture of inmates who fled the Medium Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State.

Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday, urging the public to assist in locating the escapees.

The incident occurred early Tuesday after heavy rainfall weakened the facility’s perimeter wall, causing a section to collapse around 2:00 a.m. Consequently, seven inmates exploited the damage and escaped. Authorities immediately launched a manhunt, but the fugitives remain at large.

To accelerate the search, the NCoS encourages citizens to share any relevant information, assuring anonymity and confidentiality. “To promote public cooperation, a N5 million reward awaits anyone whose tip leads to the inmates’ arrest,” the statement clarified.

Additionally, the service provided multiple contact channels, including the Public Complaint Response Desk at *complaintresponsedesk@corrections.gov.ng*, as well as phone numbers (*07087086005, 09060004598, 08075050006*) for swift reporting.

Meanwhile, the NCoS reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, noting that repairs are underway to prevent future breaches. Officials also appealed for vigilance, stressing that community cooperation is vital in restoring security.

Citizens are advised to report suspicious activities promptly, as collective efforts will ensure the fugitives are swiftly apprehended. The NCoS remains determined to uphold justice and maintain order across correctional facilities nationwide.
