South-East Governors Demand Protection For Igbo in the North

Governors from the south-eastern region have, on Friday, risen in condemnation of Arewa Youths over the recent quit notice served on Igbos living in northern Nigeria.

To that effect, the governor have demanded protection for the Igbo people whichever part of the North they may be living.

Earlier the same day, the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF) threw its weight behind Arewa youths over the ultimatum issued Igbos living in the north.

The Northern Elders also expressed disappointment with the northern governors’ forum which vehemently condemned the declaration by the radical Arewa youths.

Speaking to journalists in Zaria, NEF spokesman, Ango Abdullahi said that it was hypocritical for the Igbo to continue to live in other parts of the country while seeking for an independent State of Biafra.

Abdullahi said: “I am disappointed in the decision taken by northern governors’ forum disowning and condemning the agitation by this young agile and progressive youth groups.”

In reaction to the threat, however, Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir has assured the Igbo community and other Nigerians living in Katsina of 100% protection.

He said that he would give his blood to ensure peace.

Speaking at his palace in Katsina, he said that Nigeria will continue to remain one despite recent calls for breakup.

The emir rather urged them to continue to pray for peace, sustainable development and unity in the country.

The Igbos on their part assured the Emir of peaceful and law-abiding existence in the various host communities.
