The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIE
C), Chairman Professor Garba Ibrahim Sheka has said that the electoral body is not afraid of the purported investigation of an alleged under age voting during the just concluded local government election held throughout the 44 local government areas of the state by INEC as that would only vindicate how the election was conducted fairly and rancour free. Professor Sheka dropped the hint in a Press Release he signed a copy of which was made available newsmen, in Kano.
The statement, INEC’s move to investigate the allegation of under age voting came through the Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu at the election preparation Workshop held at the International Hotel, Lagos.
The Statement added that the position of INEC was hinged on the Video footages that went viral on the Social Media allegedly showing some voters who were obviously children participating in the local government election.
The KANSEIC Chairman said it has became imperative for KANSEIC to hail INEC’s decision and resolve to investigate the election and how it was carried out despite the fact that it was conducted under the close supervision of the independent Monitors and Civil Soceity Organisations (CSO) and adjudged as one of the most peacefully conducted elections in the history of Kano state.
” As the only statutory body that registers voters and keeps the data bases of certified Nigerian electorate, we would like to express our willingness to accord full cooperation to the team of investigators who will be in the state to ascertain the veracity of the allegation made in respect of under age voting during the conduct of the local government election. We are confident that the outcome of the election will vindicate us and further strengthen the confidence of the public on KANSIEC to conduct free and fair local government election in the near future.”
He used the opportunity to thank all those who in one way or the order made useful contributions towards the success of the election. According to Leadership News.
