The bodies have been recovered while firefighters are working at the crash site to stop the fire spreading to other buildings in the area, Alonge said. There were no casualties recorded on the ground.

The twin turboprop plane was bound for Abuja, the capital, after leaving a military airfield early on Saturday, Dele Alonge, an air force spokesman, said in an e-mailed statement.

The cause of the crash wasn’t immediately known and the statement didn’t say how many passengers were on board. An investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the crash.
