Adesina lied, we didn’t endorse Buhari, says KOWA Party

Contrary to claims by Presidential Spokesperson, Femi Adesina, that it was part of the Conference of Progressive Political Parties which endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019 presidential election, KOWA Party on Friday described such as lies.

KOWA Party said it remained an integral part of the Coalition of United Political Parties until otherwise decided by its relevant organs and authorities.

The National Secretary of KOWA Party and Co-Spokesperson of CUPP, Mark Adebayo, made the denial in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.

Adesina had included KOWA party to be among the CPPP led by Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim as among the parties which endorsed Buhari.

Members of the group listed by him which endorsed Buhari’s re-election were Advanced Allied Party; Africa Peoples Alliance; Freedom and Justice Party and KOWA Party.

Others were New Progressive Movement; Peoples Democratic Movement; Accord Party; Sustainable National Party; New Nigeria Peoples Party; Unity Party of Nigeria; United Progressive Party; National Democratic Liberty Party; Nigeria Elements Progressive Party; and Yes Electoral Party.

But Adebayo said KOWA Party was not part of the team and did not visit Aso Rock.

He said, “It has just come to our notice that KOWA was mentioned in the press release made available to the media a few minutes ago by Femi Adesina, the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity as part of a so-called Conference of Progressive Political Parties that endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019 presidential election.

“We like to state categorically that KOWA was never a signatory to the so-called endorsement of President Buhari. KOWA Party hereby dissociates itself from this fake news and urges its members and supporters to disregard it in its entirety.

“The party was not part of the delegation of political parties that went to Aso Rock to endorse the President and never signed any endorsement document with any political party on President Buhari. KOWA Party remains an integral part of the CUPP until otherwise decided by its relevant organs and authorities. A more comprehensive response will be made by the party’s national publicity secretary in due course.”
