Breaking: Court grants Olisa Metuh N300m bail in fresh case

Justice Ishaq Bello of the Abuja High Court has granted bail to the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, in the sum of N300 million with two sureties in like sum.

Justice Ishaq Bello of the Abuja High Court has granted bail to the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, in the sum of N300 million with two sureties in like sum.

The total bail sum is N600m‎, while the grand total of both case peaks at 1 billion naira, as the court granted him an earlier bail of N400 million,

The decision is in connection with charges of destruction of evidence brought against Metuh by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday.

The judgment was given by today, January 22, 2016.

Metuh is already on remand in Kuje Prison by an order of the court with respect to charges of money laundering involving N400m, part of money meant for procurement of arms, which he collected from the Office of the National Security Adviser in November 2014.

The decision is in connection with charges of destruction of evidence brought against Metuh by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Bello also said that the two sureties to be presented by the PDP spokesman must be resident in Abuja.

The EFCC has alleged that the PDP spokesman tore a statement made by him regarding the fraud case which was brought to him to sign, an act tantamount to destruction of evidence.

Metuh is being tried for allegedly receiving the sum of N400 million from Sambo Dasuki and destruction of evidence.
