Fulani herdsmen attack Benue LG boss, kill APC leader, 5 ors

Fulani herdsmen have attacked the entourage of Chairman of Tarkaa Local Government Council of Benue State, Mrs. Phoebe Akoom.

Mrs. Akoom reportedly escaped death by the whiskers but the attack led to the death of six persons including the All Progressives Congress [APC] youth leader

The incident happened barely a day after the convoy of former Senate President Senator David Mark was also attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

David Mark’s attack took place in Agatu Local Government Area of the state when he visited an areas previously attacked by the herders. 

The Tarkaa council boss was on her way to Tse-Damkor, Mbaayo District within Tarka Council Area when the incident occurred. 

The militants numbered over 50 and were armed with sophisticated weapons. 

Mrs. Akoom, who is the wife of the late immediate younger brother of the Senator Representing Benue North-West, George Akume, said that she narrowly escaped unharmed from the attack as she was whisked away by security agents.

She disclosed that two corpses of victims of the attack had been recovered while a search team had gone to recover the other dead bodies.

The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Dibal Yakadi, confirmed the report but said that he was still waiting for more details. 

He said he had deployed more policemen to contain the situation while he called on the communities to maintain calm.
