PDP suspends long-awaited National Convention in Port Harcourt

PDP suspends national convention

The Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] has  suspends its national convention billed for Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The party made this known in an official statement contained on its Facebook page “Official Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Nigeria“;

Thestatement  read thus:

“This is to inform our supporters nationwide, all the delegates to the National Convention in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State that the National Convention has been suspended.

“This is due to the numerous court cases and the directives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to supervise elections into some offices.

“The 2016 National Convention is suspended to allow time for the cases in court to be resolved.

“The Party regrets any inconveniences arising from this suspension”.

In the meantime, the leadership, which comprise PDP governors and other eminent members of the party, agreed to name an interim committee.

The committee will replace the National Working Committee [NWC], pending the holding of election to select new NWC members.

Former Governor Ahmed Makarfi and Senator Ben Obi have been chosen as interim chairman and secretary, according to PDP sources.
